Oh God I ask every single day.
Every time I look at your picture I start to cry,
I ask my self how could they do this to you and why?
You were a free spirit that was caged and then set free,
Why can't humans see that you are the same as we.
You trusted us in your safety and well being,
As soon as the gate opened you took off running,
Finally the freedom you had been waiting for
The sound of the gate behind all fours
The air smelled sweet as you ran through the trees,
Coming to the edge you bowed down on your knees,
Knowing what freedom was for the first time in years,
Wondering who these people were who gave you back your fears,
Standing there wondering which way to go
Looking back knowing it would be a long road.
Not everyone was excited about you being turned loose,
Especially the one who would chase you through the woods.
Was being free worth all of this you ask,
Only the hunter would be the one to last.
Now you are gone in such a short period of time,
Not knowing what life was in your prime,
Your mate will howl and your pups will be born,
They will take after you on this long night of mourn.
You look down and guide them through,
You will be their safety shield through the darkness of the moon.
They will follow your howl in the distance from above,
They will follow you because you are their one and only love.
