DESTINATIONS - From There To Here and Here To There
All In Good Time
It was hers now
She thought
And touched ever so lightly
The old clock she had just placed
Upon her mantel
With love in each fingertip
Tracing slowly along outlines
Of a long past craftsman's labor
Of his own love.
It was hers now
She thought
And lived again in that part
Of her mind reserved just for
Memories almost too precious
For words
Each time it chimed the old
Familiar tones
Heralding yesterday, today, tomorrow.
It was hers now
She thought
And smiled at what this old clock
Was and would be
Even
To those who would come after
Several generations bound forever
By moments measured
In simple ticks and tocks
Time immemorial.
It was hers now
She thought
And with it came the acceptance
She was only the keeper
For a time of its time
And in humble gratitude
She cried
The tears of one who welcomes
An old friend
Home.
