The Money TreeMy children believe in St. Nick and the Easter Bunny, Ghosts and goblins, and think elves are so funny. All these things they are eager to see yet they most believe in the Money Tree. Not a day, not an hour, unless they are sleeping goes by without at least one of them speaking and saying how they want such and such while I tell them 'til blue-faced it costs too much. So without a clock's tick they'll quickly reply just get out your checkbook so you can buy. Again I'll say no; you should give thanks. You have lots of toys. They say go to the bank. Then again to them I will try to explain You need money in there to do any payin' They say you just stick your card in the ATM and money will just fly on out then. No! I'll say. That not how it works! I try calm down and not act like a jerk. You can only get out what you put in. When that money runs out, there's no buyin'. They look puzzled for a second and shake their head. "Well, can we just have a dollar instead?" Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
