THE CHURCH
The church stood silhouetted in the gloaming
And haloe'd by the setting sun,
Epitomised another ending,
Reminded me the day was done.
Reminded me that bricks and mortar
Wait to greet another morn,
That you will never see another,
Enjoy the light of breaking dawn.
Reminded me that your were christened,
Married, buried in this beauteous scene.
The church will carry on its business,
Forgetting you had ever been.
I knew I'd never be returning
Once I'd looked and walked away,
But your name carved into a headstone
Forever in my memory it will stay.
