I have been having a bit of fun! Looking at the index of first lines in one of my anthologies, I thought - put some of them together and it looks like a poem; so I have put some of them together - and it does look like a poem!!
These lines are exactly as they appear in the index. Only the spacing is mine.
I am the gilly of Christ.
I fled him, down the nights and down the days.
I have been so great a lover ; tilled my days.
I have come to the borders of sleep,
I have desired to go.
I have seen old ships sail like swans asleep,
I have seen dawn and sunset on moors and windy hills.
I hear a sudden cry of pain,
I heard a linnet courting -
I laid me down upon the shore.
I like the hunting of the hare.
I saw a frieze on whitest marble drawn
I went out to the hazel wood,
I who am dead a thousand years.
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree.
