I was in strange territory and totally lost
But had to find my way at any cost
And then I saw an old man leaning on his gate
I noticed the name of his house was simply "Fate"
I told him I was lost and asked the way
He told me and I thought he must all day
Stand there to tell all strangers where to go
The fact that I was lost he seemed to know.
He pointed down the lane and then he said
"Keep going, there's a junction just ahead,
Take the left road, very soon you'll see
You'll be exactly where you want to be."
I thanked him, he acknowledged with a smile,
The junction it was there within a mile,
I took the left road, suddenly I fell,
I tumbled past the gates that led to hell.
And when I stopped I looked around and saw
That this was hell, saw someone close the door.
Another notch he cut into his gate,
The old man leaned on it again in wait.
