And my golden retriever was very hungry
But I thank God I was outside that day
Because I was able to help the little bird
and I was able to save the little critters life
My dog on the other hand
wasn't really happy with me
being that she loves birds
She sits outside day and night
ready for the thrill of the hunt
But on this special day
a miracle took place
I really felt good inside
knowing that some day this little bird
would totally enjoy the gift of flight
because at the moment you can see that
she hasn't learned how to fly yet
What was really amazing that day when I was attempting
to protect her from severe harm
is the fact that I could see the little critters
Mom and Dad above me
flying around hysterically
while the little bird was screaming and crying
So I decided to take the little baby bird
and I gently lifted her up from harms way
And I put her in the palm of my hands to comfort her
and to see if any damage was done
and to my surprise
she was just fine
I know the laws of nature are against her
but maybe for this little bird
things will be different
I felt that it was important
to take her to a really big bush
where I knew that she would be safer from the elements
and she wouldn't get hot or cold
And hopefully mom and dad wouldn't leave her alone
Hopefully they would nurture her
and comfort her and make sure she gets plenty of food and water
and a lot of unconditional love
So that some day really soon
she can stretch her wings and fly freely in the sky
I do look forward to the day
when I can be
seeing the little critter all grown up
and soaring high while I am sitting on my swing on my porch
I know more then likely that I will never see her again
But I know Mom and Dad were happy that day
Knowing there little baby was safe for another day
And I know that deep inside my heart
I felt that I had been in the right place
at the right time to protect her and comfort her
So that some day real soon that she can fly
And enjoy her life
And more then anything to be free
