MEMORY LANE
Walk around between the pillars
And the alleyways
And slip out of the maze.
No one will notice the loss
Until the dwindle becomes a flood.
Carry all the faces
And juggle and match them up
With events and names and places
And joys and sorrows and emptiness.
Regret the passing,
The memories that are joyful
And full of sadness and aching,
And wish the return of times like these.
Where are the children
And the friends who are still living,
Somewhere, still in this world
Or a different one from yours?
Is that the same ladybird
I saw as a child,
Still climbing up the old tree
And the same robin
Sitting on the windowsill
In Winter at Christmastime?
