POETRY IN MOTION

THE REHEARSAL

The drum-roll of thunder stamped over the skies,
The rainbow picked up her skirts and fled,
The sun closed its shutters and did a retreat,
Normality stood on its head.

The drawbridge of darkness was lowered and locked,
A monochrome land on display.
The devil sent darts which split-secondly mocked
And it seemed as though God turned away.

The day turned to night and the evening confused.
Night came but was already here
And the tick of the clock, mustard planted on rock,
Was as far as the morning was near.

But the morning did come, nature muffled the drum
And the sky blinkered blue with relief
The sun reappeared though with guilt slightly smeared
And God reaffirmed his belief.

Twas another new day, children ran out to play
How easy, when young, to forget.
But the devil looked down, a celestial clown.
The stage for the real thing was set...........................
