POETRY IN MOTION

TRIUMPHAL LOVE

I fell in love with an image of you,
Pedestalised you (too good to be true).
Loved what I saw and saw what I thought.
Thought you were perfect (ever been caught?)
Faultless and flawless, perfection itself.
Doubtless, the very best book on the shelf.

Then slowly, slowly stones were turned,
Dreams were questioned, lessons learned,
Cracks appeared, some big some small
(You weren't an angel after all).

Some lights went out, some shadows fell,
Bits of heaven, bits of hell,
Virtues, vices, pick 'n' mix,
Half a dozen wasn't six.
Good points, bad points, somersaults,
(Could write a list of warts and faults).

Now I know you as you are
(Somewhat different, some things are).
Misconceptions all been righted
(Love's not blind but comes short-sighted).

Oh silly me! What did I know?
Why did I let me love you so?
I should have got to know you better,
Looked before I leaped, etcetter.

For now I know the ins and outs,
I know the facts, I have no doubts,
And I can truly say for sure
I REALLY LOVE YOU ALL THE MORE!
