POETRY IN MOTION

THE WEDDING DRESS

Her wedding dress cost an arm and a leg;
Not for her something straight off the peg
On her big day she wished to be dressed
In nothing but the very best.

Then after the wedding, its purpose complete
She took it to Oxfam in Westmorland Street.
Oh, such a kind gesture! her friends did declare,
Donated for someone less wealthy to wear.

Her husband was tickled that she was so kind.
No one knew really what she had in mind.
What she did was not what it seemed,
What she did had been long since schemed.

Oxfam would have it professionally washed
(Removing the wine stains that somehow got sploshed)
And it would be ironed professionally, too.
When it went on sale it would look like brand new.

Ready for doing the aisle-trip once more,
But cheaper by far than from some swanky store.
So she bought it off them. It's home, hid from sight
And ready to wear for the next "Mr. Right".
