FOR DADDY
You've always seemed so unreachable
a mountain too steep to climb
yet I hang in the balance
a few feet from the sublime
You've always seemed so unemotional
an angry granite face
yet I've started an avalanche
with a loving word or embrace
You've always seemed so unbending
a great oak, proud and tall
yet a tear I've sadly shed brought
your love like the leaves that fall
You've always seemed so predictable
like the rising and setting sun,
yet when I thought I knew you
like an eclipse, you were the surprising one.
I've grown into an adult now
and those childish impressions are gone
and I want you to know how I love you Dad
when this, your day, is done.
