CHILDLESS COUPLE

CHILDLESS COUPLE

In the evening of their lives
They sit with just each other
Derby and Joan all alone.
Not a father, not a mother.

They think of the joys of family life
How it might have been
Christmas, birthdays, holidays
With offspring on the scene.

She makes a bed-time cup of tea
And wears a practiced grin.
He puts the photos of their kids
Back in the biscuit tin.
