 OXFORD SWANS

"Oxford Swans" is one of the many verse from my "Salisbury Tales" series.

Independent majestic colleges...
Are the seats of learning....
As the educated are burning...
How discerning...
The art of learning...
King Alfred...
Founded this place...
As described by Gerald of Wales...
Who lectured to scholars in this place.
Christopher Wren...
Is such a starlite gem...
For building a Roman theater...
Like St. Peter...
Charles the first...
Is such a bird...
As he took flight...
In the middle of the night...
Much to the Round-heads delight.
Through the looking glass...
Did Lewis Carrol gleam...
As the fumes...
Sent him to this magical place.
Lawrence of Arabia...
Was such a mad dog of an Englishman...
Who went out in the Midday scorching sun...
Burning his peachy bum...
Bulldogs William Shakespeare & Winston Churchill...
Drank real ale at The Bear...
While Shelley & Tolkien...
Fly high as birds...
Is to be observed.
Bookworms...
Will love to disappear in this place...
Submerged...
By a million and half books...
Is such a cosmic train...
To another plain.
Ladies gently punting...
Sliding long poles...
Into Cherwells deep & Muddy holes...
Is a woman's goal...
Woodstock...
Is where the sheep...
Love to rock...
While Blenheim Palace...
Is just as jealous of Capabilities Brown's frown.
Thought of the day...
Is independent looks...
So please...
Do not burn this book...
Or you will be spooked.
