VOICES IN MY HEAD

Angel Closes Her Eyes

They say it is the last thing to go;
Hearing!

Bleep, bleep, bleep!

I hear breathing, so why can't I breathe?
I hear quiet weeping…
Why can't I open my eyes…?
To see who is crying in the night?
Why can I not comfort him?

I hear voices in my head:

‘Time to go soon!'  Someone said.
I hear footsteps approaching!
The squeak of wheels, the rattle of cups!
‘Hello Dearie, nice cup of tea and a magazine is it?'
‘Thank you.'

I hear them talking.
Why can I not answer them?
What is that?

Bleep, bleep, bleep!

‘It's such a shame, dearie…'
‘Car crash, her children died.'
‘Drunk driver they say.'
‘That's her husband just left.'
‘He's been here every day.'
‘Doesn't say much!'
Well he never did much of that before!
So much left unsaid!'

‘Hi Hun, brought you lilies…'
‘I know they're your favorite!'
This voice makes me warm.

Though I cannot feel, why can't I feel?

Noises all around me:

Bleep, bleep, bleep!

‘It is time to go, you cannot stay!'
There is nothing left for you to do here now!"
Who is that, why are you here?

I drift in and out.
Why can't I feel anything?
Why can't I move, or shout?
What is that noise?

Bleep, bleep, bleep!

‘Hello Luv, feeling better today?'
‘You've had such a lot of visitors…'
‘Lots of lovely flowers!'
Why can't I smell them?

Another voice in my head:

‘Hi, I know you can hear me!'
‘I'll just sit here and hold your hand'
Do I know you?
‘We shall have to go soon you know!'
I know this voice…!

Bleep, bleep, bleep!

A soft gentle memory bringing with it warmth!
I hear weeping pulling me back.
‘Don't leave me, I won't let you go!'
‘I can't live without you, you know!'
More crying tearing at my heart!
I have a heart?

The voice in my head yes…
But none of that matters any more.
‘It is time for you to go.'
‘Come along with me…'
‘I will show you the way it is not so far.'

Silence, then;

‘Well today is the day Nurse Blake…'
‘All test results are through.'
‘There is nothing more for her we can do!'
‘It is a hard choice to make…'

‘Come along Love, he'll be fine…'
‘Your time is done!'

Bleep, bleep…

bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
