CAGE
It is a tragedy little bird trapped…
Inside a cage unable to get out or let go!
She's sold herself down the river,
Never a taker, always the giver!
Such a shame you know!
Everything she could have been…
She has denied!
A torrent of tears year in year out,
She has cried!
Once she might have been…
A child full of joy and grace!
But she grew up to believe…
She had no right in this place!
All her dreams she buried…
Deep in her heart!
Never a chance of becoming real…
And part of her life!
Years ago she put on a mask to hide!
Not showing her true self, her good side!
For to show that she cared…
Or that she had love…
It was only there to be squashed!
Those around her squeezed her dry taught her…
Never to question!
Don't bother me with "why!!
Don't ever voice your thoughts!
That is what she was taught!
So she grew up angry…
But also full of doubt,
Unable to even scream or shout!
So deeply had she buried herself!
Years it took for it gradually to come out!
Her tears now dammed up, bone dry…
But the body started to rebel,
Wracked with pain!
Daily it became a struggle…
Abuse became a daily chore!
Bruised, battered, mentally weary…
And heart sore.
Daily her brain was taught to believe…
That she had no rights to yearn for an open door.
And gradually she grew up and began to perceive!
That she was a no-body!
No voice, no life!
So to break free she chose to be a wife!
Years down the line are things any better,
Is she any happier now?
Having moved from one cage to another!
Is she any more as free as before?
Well I'll give you a clue!
All you have to do…
Is look at the picture on the wall!
Its the one of her wedding day!
Does it portray her happy, smiling and gay?
That is for you to decide!
But I'm pleased to say…
That things now have changed!
The door of that cage is now open…
Our little bird sits right on the edge.
But is she ready to fly just yet?
Well that's for another day!
But her wings are fully fledged!
