Cathy and I have been friends since junior school. a friendship,which has survived the traumas life has thrown at us. I treasure her friendship so I wrote this poem especially for her!
A good friend is worth their weight in gold!
Your friendship a treasure to closely hold,
During times of good and times of bad…!
Having you near has made me glad!
Together we have forged a deep bond,
Which holds us both - unbreakably strong?
We've worked together over the years,
Getting to know each other's pet hates and fears!
We've learned to love the person we chose.
To be the one who knows…
Our deepest desires and our deepest fears!
The one that's there for me in times of tears!
The only one who understands why…!
I say and do the stupidest things!
And stands with me when hardship brings,
Everything crashing down!
Helping each other…
To keep our feet on the ground!
Never condemning the things I do,
Remaining a friend good and true!
But of course there've been happy times too!
Of those there's been more than a few!
We've cracked our sides with laughter,
Over boyfriends…!
Oh what were we thinking!
Must have been too much drinking!
And what about those terrible clothes we wore,
Such a dreadful eyesore!
The times we sat on each others bed…
Listened to music, sang and the books we read.
The Caramac's, Cabana's, and cans of Lilt…
Enough to make you feel sick!
But looking back is a part of who we are…
Together we remember…
And look - see how far we've come!
So now our friendship is closer still,
Better than before!
Because we took the time out to share,
And learnt to care!
Our love for each other is rare!
Because with you I never have to pretend!
Our friendship is something of which I am so proud;
Because you are in truth my lovely friend!!!!
