Plato's Cave

I was only a kid-about 16
The first time I read about
Plato's cave and the fire
At the mouth of the cave

And the poor souls trapped
Who mistook their shadows
On the back of the cave
For their reality and

I laughed

I was a bit older-in my twenties
Dancing at a rock concert-
Watching shadows from stage lights

And thinking about my daily life-
Of jobs and bills and relationships
Then I realized that Plato was right-

Shadows had captured my reality

I learned to make the shadows dance

I lived the life I chose to live
With Jobs and bills and relationships

Then death took the ones I loved
And in death, they spoke to me

"The cave, my friend, is in your skull"-
