I Remember You

To my ex-husband Robert H.

A life long gone into a memorable past.
The days I thought would forever last.
But times have altered both you and I.
A love we once shared was inescapable to die.

I sit and I wonder what might have been.
How things have had to transform since way back then.
Why did I not avoid what was to be?
The destruction of our marriage, mainly because of me.

I never fully realized that I had a good life.
I acted immaturely at being a noble wife.
Now I watch you interact with our children we both hold dear.
I never really understood how it affected them with you not here.

But my belated realizations are all in vain.
Will you ever be able to forgive me for all the pain?
A friendship we now share shows me you somewhat do.
To some extent I still feel guilty for what I did to you.

But I accept what is my life.
To another man I belong and am his wife.
Thank God for allowing me another chance.
To change who I was and begin another dance.

I will never forget my life I lived with you.
And with your new wife, I wish you happiness so true.
Your way to forget those times you shared with me,
Shows me now that this is the way it was intended to be.

I no longer cry for you, my heart no longer in pain.
This is what helps me now to keep me sane.
I enjoy my world as it was meant to be.
And wonder sometimes if you still remember me?

I remember you.
