He goes to work, she goes to work,
The children go to school.
In the evening she cooks, they eat,
Watch tv as a rule.
Then homework is done and one by one,
The kids trot off to bed,
She has some knitting to finish
And he a newspaper unread.
She does a sleeve, he reads the news,
He makes a cup of tea.
They sit side by side on the sofa,
Alone, together and free.
The days have long past when they'd get to work fast
Like youngsters in love full of go,
They found it quite grand just to sit hand in hand,
Being Derby and Joan for a mo.
But now and then still they would fancy a thrill,
Play soft music and turn down the lights
And they'd walk once again along memory lane
And revisit their favourite sights.
