I remember taking a journey ten years ago
for a one week vacation
at the neon city in the dessert
where dessert and sand collided with time
on a long lonesome journey down by the river side
near the city line
There were miles of miles of dessert land
in between with white stripes on the highway
leading the way like an arrow in the dark
as if you were in a dream
that was causing illusions of a different kind
through the darkness of night
with shadowy hills in the back drop off the highway
where the stars were multiplied by the thousands in the dark sky
and cactus plants
and yucca plants were
blending into the night
from the radiant moon
There shadows were quite translucent in the darkness of night
on this long lonesome journey
And they seemed to be my only companions
My arrival to my destination was nearing
around the next bend
And day light was quickly approaching
And I could smell the river
that was right around the corner
next to the sand
And in the blinking of an eye
everything transcended
into a new illusion
filled with so much energy
Next to the
Colorado river
There were speed boats
and wave runners taking over the river
And dune buggies
and dirt bikes
were taking over
the sand dunes on land
and in the sky
there were hot air balloons
all over the place
it was an amazing transition
filled with vibrant colors everywhere
and a special memory to forever remember
in my mind
And then by night there were
miles and miles of neon lights
taking over the city
And I would have to say
this was truly a journey
I would never forget
in the neon city of lights
down by the river.
The memories will forever
be laced in my mind
of the perfect vacation
way back in time.
