 A dogs tale
A dogs tale
Written by D.A.M
June 12, 2006
(This is a true story)

As far back as I can remember
I have always had a dog

They make the best of friends
and no matter what kind of day
you have had
there tails will wag back and forth

And they will look at you with a smile
from the minute you wake up
and all through the day
they will always love you unconditionally

Dogs are incredible animals
and they make wonderful companions

When I have good days or bad days
they always bring a smile to my face

Because they love me  no matter what
my day may be like

I have a story to tell
and it is a dogs tale

I had a dog that was
so amazing

He was a brindle mix
and his colors were
beyond beautiful

And I was very  fortunate
to bond with him
from the very first day
when he was born
to me it was like raising a child

And as he began to grow

I was so amazed
because he
was one of those kind of dogs
that was filled with tricks
and he loved to chase sticks
that I would throw in the field
and he would always bring them back to me
so that I could keep throwing them
in the field over and over again

He could climb link fences too
that's the one trick
that  I wish
I had never taught him

He was so smart

I think he should have been
a graduate of mans best friend

But sadly to say
one day he got away
and he climbed the  link fence
and he never came back again

I knew if he could he would
because many times before
he always did come back

From that day  forward
for thirty days straight
I went to every pound
and every animal shelter in the area
hoping and praying
that he could be found
I even put his picture up
 all over town

I kept looking for him
but I never did find him

And some how
I knew he was on a mission
to bring happiness to another family
so he could bring joy into there eyes
and warmth into there hearts
so that he could make
a difference in there lives
like he did with mine

My heart was torn into
and I miss him
more and more every day

I even screamed out his name
many times through out the day

But some how
I knew I would
never see him again

And on day number thirty
at close to five

I went into the animal shelters
one more time
looking for him

And he wasn't any where to be found

So I decided right then
to have some compassion
even though my heart was broken
I needed another companion

There was another dog
in the animal shelter
that day
who was going
to be put to sleep

And as I walked by him
he stood up on his hind legs in his cage
and he cried out to me
because he knew his time was up
that's when I knew right then
that it was a sign
and that's when
my life changed again

The animal shelter
was going to put
him to sleep after they
closed for the day
and it was almost ten of five
and I wanted to keep him alive

And I knew in my heart
I had to save this dog
so I adopted him

The following week
I took him to obedience training
and everything went  amazingly well

Many years have passed since then
And now he is my best friend

My other dog who got away
will always be missed
And he will be remembered
in the best of ways

My only hope
for my other dog is
that who ever may have him
that they wont abuse
him in any way or form
and that they take care of him
and treat him
like a part of the family
because he sure was full of personality

My new dog was abused
but as time went by
I earned his respect
and I earned his trust
and my patience paid off

As the years kept going  by
we would train together every day

And the more I got to know him
the more I learned to love him
Unconditionally

He even has his own room
that is padded with old comforters
that are layered
and its his favorite place to sleep

In the beginning
I would ask him
to give me five on one paw
and he would as he smiled into my eyes
and then I would tap his shoulder
as he was sitting down
and I would tell him to give me five more
and to my surprise he did

He has so many tricks that
I have taught him through the years
from rolling over to jumping up and down
and even chasing balls
and bringing them back to me.

With every trick he does
he gets a treat
only after he gives me a kiss on the cheek

This is my dogs tale

I hope you enjoy and love your animals
the way that I do
because they sure do make a difference in our lives

I have had my new dog now
for eight years
and he is getting up there in age
and he is still as loyal as can be

I will love him every day
in a gentle loving way
because he is my best friend
and my companion.
