Remember when we used to meet and walk
And spend a secret hour hand-in-hand
And dream of things of which we couldn't talk
In silence only we could understand?
Our different worlds we'd leave for just a while
And ramble through a world that was our own,
United as a couple lover-style
And knowing things that should have been unknown?
The promises we made we couldn't keep,
The hopes we had we knew were all in vain,
The gap too wide to make a lovers' leap,
The smiles that nearly hid the inner pain?
Those times were tough, the outlook oh so grey -
But in old age, those memories make my day!
