Poem For John
I know, the next moment,
That you can be gone
So I cherish your presence
Like notes in a song
I know, at some point,
The song comes to end
So here, in this moment,
I'll love you, my friend.
I've no wish to regret
Not sharing my joy
Of being around you,
My dear man, my dear boy
Your support's been phenomenal,
Helped keep me alive
Your love and steadfastness
Have helped me revive
The woman I truly am,
Not a scared, damaged child
Who'd spent years being beaten,
Derided, reviled
You've been my savior
Here on earth, as my man
And the best I can give you
Is each moment, ‘cuz I can
I honor your presence
in this moment of now
So when you are absent,
I won't wonder how
I could have done better,
Perhaps loved you more
This moment is ours,
For ever and more.
