He keeps fighting to stay alive

(This is a poem about my Doberman
who I adopted almost ten years ago
from the humane society ten minute
before they were going to put him to sleep
and he has been the best dog that I have ever had.)
(Enjoy listening to eye of the tiger and seeing a picture of my dog too)
He has been so strong
and so loving
and he has been
my four legged companion
from the very first day
that I adopted him
He is almost ten
and he has always been
my best friend
He has been beside me
through every storm
ever since he was young
Now he keeps fighting
to stay alive
Because his health
isn't doing so well
He has been having seizures
and they have been
getting the best of him
The last time he had them
he had three in a row
The last seizure
that he had
I thought for sure
that was it
and that he had died
And yet some how
the good Lord
has kept him around
and my dog continues
to fight
I check on him constantly
because he is
my four legged friend
A whole week
has almost gone by
and he hasn't
had another seizure
and he still fights every day
because he isn't ready to go away
I feed him
the best natural dog food
and bottled water now
Because I don't
want to see him die
so I try to
help him every day
Because he is like a son
to me
And I cannot imagine
not having him by my side
I do thank God every day
that he is still alive
And I try to comfort him
every day
while he is
still here with me
Because we have
a bond together
and we love
each other unconditionally
I know that some day
he will have to go away
But until that time comes
I will fight for him
and nurture him with love
