 Flatiron Copse

We parked the car,
and in the Summer sun,
headed towards Mametz Wood.

Along the track,
a defiant Red Dragon stands,
a memorial to the 38th Welsh.

The inscription translates as:
Let Us Respect Their Endeavours,
Let Our Memories Live On.

Further on was the cemetery,
known as Flatiron Copse.
A peaceful place now,
in Northern France,
where we walked with the ghosts of The Somme.
