The icy coldness made my teeth chatter
And the white crispy blanket
Crunched underfoot.
Someone had visited in the depth of night
Wandering the quiet streets whilst
Sprinkling crushed stardust around the path.
I tugged my heavy coat across myself
And ventured into a crystal palace
Where branches hung with frozen dew
And cobwebs became spangled filigree.
My foot slipped and I slid towards a grassy bank
Spiked little blades poked from the earth
And glittered magically.
Church of old wattle and daub appeared to have been iced
Like the topping of a birthday cake and
The glass of sacred stains
Shone openly,
Inviting to the warmth of the pew.
It was welcoming here.
It was a different world here.
