What more can I say
About this situation today
Time has moved on
But it left me undone
Time is a healer
So I am told
But I have to admit
That statement leaves me cold
It has no empathy
If you look at it true
It is just saying
Something for people to give to you
At basis they are just mere words
A comfort in time of need?
Well yes I suppose
But only if those works you heed
But these words are all we have
And with them we are to be content
Because these words spoken
Are kindly meant
The people who give them
Do not know any other way
To help you ease your pain
So they give you these words today
A choice of what to do
Do you heed those kindly meant
Or do you put them on a shelf
Considering them to be of ill intent
For mere words cannot take away
The yearning spirit you have today
They cannot remove the wondering
Nor can they prevent the deep mourning
Neither can they take away
The hurtful things said that day
How can happy words ever hope to cover
The agony which lies within
They will not be able to heal over that wound
Stabbed through your aching heart
It will always be a scar, sensitive to the touch
A wistful thought, it doesn't take much
A name overheard on the radio
Or a tune which means so much to you
Is all it takes to break you in two
The agony begins again, I know!
I will not laden your ears
I will not try to soften your fears
Words of healing time I will not use
Because those words are not the ones I choose
Instead of feeling sorrow,
That deep ache in your heart
Turn these feeling around
Be glad you and he met for a start
Be happy this person came into your life
And consider what they gave to you
For everyone who touches us leaves a mark
It is up to us to choose, light or dark
We can choose to smile at the gifts they left
Or we can choose to stay lonely and bereft
