The Far Fields
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I happened to know the way.
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I didn't have to pay.
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I just had to get away.
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I was weary and feeling gray.
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I wanted to smile again and play.
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I wanted to escape the strife and fray.
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I did not care what the people say.
I walked into the far fields one day,
because I wanted to rest and pray.
I walked into the far fields one day,
and decided that I would forever stay.
