The Ones Still Wild Remember. . .

We came to you...
Long, long ago
in a time now forgotten,
when you were not great,
when you were not separate,
when you did not see yourselves
as masters of all creation.
We came to you...
You sat by your fires
fearful, humbled and awed
by the wild world around you.
The Earth was young,
the air was sweet,
and the water like liquid life.
We came to you...
Our fangs carved your flesh,
Our eyes cut your soul,
our ways became your ways.
We came to you...
We were so much alike.
We learned from you,
you learned from us,
together we ran free...
We were your brothers,
you were our friends,
living under the same sun.
We came to you...
So long, long ago...
And today? And now?
Now we do not think
we know you anymore,
just as you
no longer know us...
