Lost Numbers

I once heard an army spokesman
speak of numbers that had died…
scores and scores and scores of men
that went to war with pride.
Each one of those lost numbers
stood tall, with courage true
some suffered inhumanities
some of it… for you.
And now they're just lost numbers
but replenished every day
with more and more new numbers
that have their part to play.
Till one day they'll be no more
all our numbers will be lost
then who will the army spokesman
ask to bear the cost!!??
