Suzy has memories
Of flying.
She's only five.
Golden pig tails
Deep chocolate brown pools
For eyes,
That glisten when she looks up
Into the sky,
And her feet are so very
Firmly planted on the ground.
The paradox is excruciating
To her
And her whole being
Shakes with all the glorious
Fury of a temper tantrum
That only a little five year old
Girl can truly express…
Ugly and terribly cute
At the same time.
Her parents tell her
She's being unreasonable
The fairies tell her
It's her birthright,
For they are as real. To her.
As her parents are.
She reaches out skyward
And her feet point and lift
She sways and falls
And cries.
The fairies shake their
Tiny heads and utter the
Curse…
Earthbound.
You know the children
Like Suzy…
They watch invisible friends
Move about the room
When they were but babes…
Like the cats do…
Their heads twisting
This way and that
To something or someone
Unseen.
Soul of the DeNan
Those deep ancient eyes
Body of a tiny human
The fury and passion
Of both fused together…
