Close your eyes and remember how it was.
What memories do you bring?
Do you recall the sights, the colours, the sounds or the scents.
Do you remember the feelings, the emotions?
Do you remember what you felt and why?
Can you describe those feelings?
Did you bring a happy memory
of splashing about in water,
running barefoot on the sand,
with the sounds of the ocean behind you.
Feeling the wind in your hair
and the heat of the sun on your face?
Can you remember the happiness you felt,
the laughter you felt and the freedom it gave you?
Did you bring the memory
of mixing water and earth into a muddy puddle
and experiencing again the pleasure of the texture,
the feeling of pure happiness of the moment.
With no regard for the anger of the parent
when they saw the state of your clothes
the colour of your hands and feet.
Did you bring the moment of anxiety
as you realised you were riding your bike,
unattended.
Did you panic
because there was no adult to stop you from falling over.
Or did you accept it
feel exhilarated because you'd done it!
You were riding that bike unattended!
That wonderful feeling of achievement.
Did you feel
a momentary feeling of panic at that moment,
or as you pinpointed the exact moment of that memory
when you felt the deepest and darkest fears surfacing.
Did you try to turn those fears away
knowing they would spoil that most precious moment?
Allowing yourself to be taken away
with those emotions to guide you
to various places were you could feel safe.
Where is that safe place?
Do you know?
Can you now take yourself
into that childlike state of living in the now?
Not worrying about the next minute or the next hour.
Having no concern for the consequences of your actions.
Concerned only with living in that moment
and the preciousness it brings.
