Eighteen years have gone by
since you left me that day
and I can still remember
how difficult it was for me
in the year of nineteen ninety
when you passed away on a Monday
The night before
you had just gotten back home
from your fifty year class reunion
And the next morning
you got up
and you spent most of the day
working outside in the yard
like you always did
and then that night
we all sat down at the dinner table
and you seemed so content and happy
I just wish I would have known
that it would be our last time
sharing dinner together
because I would have stayed home
Later that night
I remember leaving
to go over to a friends house
so that you and mom
could spend some time with each other
After I left that night
you had trouble breathing
and you told mom
to call nine one one
and those were the last words
that you ever shared with her
Because a few minutes later
you passed away in moms arms
