It's been brought to my attention
and something needs to be said
I've had many different conversations
of religious beliefs and ideas
and where that person has been led.
There are many faiths in this world
each of them is different in its way
some have customs and traditions
some come and go, others are here to stay
Each person I've met along the way
each one has a religious faith
a belief personal of their own
and whose to say which is right
and who am I to condemn it as being wrong?
Each faith is as personal
as the skin that clothes our heart
but doesn't necessarily mean it's right
but that don't mean I'm gonna start a fight
I've learned over the years
each one of us has a right
to believe or not
that is what freedom of will is about
so I'm not going to stand up and shout
I've learned a lot from different ones
about the comfort that they find
so why should I mind,
that there belief is not the same as mine?
Isn't it sufficient for the day
that they've found a personal way?
That they've been led to have a faith, they now can "see"
rather than being lost in the morass of humanity
what I've found is the core belief
that each person has found happiness and joy
their faith gives them hope and promise
for a better day!
I look at it this way.
If I had red hair, which I don't
would it be right of me to say
"HEY you, change the colour of your hair
'cos it isn't the right way!"
It's the same with faith I reckon
as long as there is a belief in A God
and it stops us long enough to say thanks and pray
Isn't that sufficient for the day?
Wouldn't that make for a better world
to agree that at least we believed
rather than causing distress
and making everything upheaved?
Religion is a common theme
which runs throughout the human kind
so all of can't be right
so why do we continue to fight?
Why can't we just accept
let people pray to their own
rather than saying your religion is wrong
Why can't we just get along?
Why is it that just because I sing a different song
you consider me fit for the fires of hell
wouldn't it be better
if we just got on well?
Isn't that what the Gospel is about
accepting each other as people for what they are
with all our little foibles
and our irritating troubles
you may like cheese, whilst I may not
but that doesn't mean we can't be friends
you may like crackers, whilst I like bread
doesn't mean I'm not right in the head!
you see we are so different
none of see things in the same light
so why can't we just agree to disagree
and stop this religious fight!
