Gathering

York, 2008
Senior citizens in a York bar
Gathered re- united at last
Talking over times together
More than forty years past

Effeld 1961
Situation normal
 Nearly every single night
Simpson and Brabner
scuffling for the right
To escort home Lisel
Who stood at the door
Somewhat bemused
As they struggled on the floor
Maybe before it was decided
Which  was the lucky one
She would lose her patience
And reluctantly be gone
While Elli stood there laughing
And Glasby ordered Pils
That amazing amber liquid
That cured all squaddie ills
And I proposed to Marliese
And she would sadly frown
Trying to be kind as once again
She turned my offer down
And The Chief served the beer
The last one of the day
Then out into the street
And on our beery cheery way
Each maybe a little wobbly
But each well able to stand`
Each clutching a cheese banjo
Prepared by Elli's own fair hand

York 2008
Teenagers in their minds
Wiping laughter's tears
Vividly recalling those
Long past shared years
