“To know is to reason”
Or so some say
And my life is an experience
To defy the laws
Of reason.
Because I know
Before I sense
Before I perceive…
There is more than
Rational to knowledge.
“Imagination is more important
than knowledge.” Or so Einstein says.
Philosophers often forget
That inspiration is the mistress
mother goddess
Of science
And empirical processes.
Laws are not laws
Unless they are always true
Dear philosopher,
And truth is not made
By democratic processes,
But by the magickal wonder
Of discovery.
Spirituality cannot be surgically
Removed from the premise of time,
Anymore than medicine can mechanically
Heal a broken heart.
I'd have to concede divisible life
That there is nothing more beneath
The skin of an atom than space
And souls can't exist
Because mankind can't
Measure them.
My dear philosopher
I am Socrates reborn
I am Plato and Aristotle
I am Kant and Democritus
And I knew them without
Knowing with my senses
But my heart,
Which has no eyes
Nor skin, or ears
Nor nose to know
Or reason
Whispered the truths
Of the ages to my soul.
My way of experiencing
The world breaks the laws of reason.
Perhaps it's time for a new kind
Of philosophy…
The Oracle of Delphi said, “know thyself.”
I say, “ be open to wonder and inspiration.”
I'll let those who come after give it a name.
