I had to say good bye to my furry old friend
that I had saved from being put down
and he only had ten minutes left before
they would have to do the task of taking his life

But he found me that day
over ten years ago
and I was able to save his life

We played catch with a ball
and we would wrestle on the floor
and if I asked him to give me five
or to roll over he would do it
as if he knew everything that I wanted him to do

And I think about all the years
that we were able to spend together
and I know in my heart
that he was truly a blessing in disguise

Because my Mother got him for me
a few months before she had died

And he helped me
with her loss and through
all the difficult days

And I still find myself thinking about
my furry old  friend  all the time
and I wish that he was still here with me

But I know in my heart
that some day when it is my turn
to gain my wings and go to Heaven
that my furry friend will be waiting for me

A month after he passed away
I found another dog
that looked almost identical to him
and I couldn't resist so I adopted him
just like I did with my old companion

And ever since my furry friend passed away
every once in awhile I will feel a brush
against my leg when my other dogs are outside

And I just think it is his way of reminding me
that he may be gone in body
but that his spirit will always be beside me
