After all the years of loyalty and dedication

It never seems to fail
when we give it our all
to one special person
And we think that
nothing will ever change
Because we think that
things will always
remain the same
But after all the years of
loyalty and dedication
Everything can be
taken away
with one blink of the eye
And then we are left wondering
why things had to turn out this way
But unfortunately these things
do happen every now and then
And all we can do is to try to
pick ourselves back up again
But the sad thing about it all
is that after it is all said and done
it seems to make it that much harder
for us to ever be able to trust anyone again
It took many years for me
to get beyond my pain
and all the hurt and the suffering
But I was finally able to heal
so that I could have the
opportunity to fall in love again
