The man, dark of hair
Gold and brown of eye.
War torn and desperate!
The tattered wrapping of his wounds
Coated in filth and fly infested.
Dragging himself;
Each step an agony of energy.
Each gasp of breath burning
Beyond the gnawing pain
Of an empty belly!
The stench of decay all around,
Traveling this lonely road
His heart heavy within his breast
His offering in his heart
Takes him onward.
He holds the vision aloft
The temple of his goddess
Wherein lies the answer to his prayer!
A few miles more
He will reach his goal
Then rest!
Until then he toils ever onward
Holding the vision of her beauty before him
She stands smiling urging him on ever swift
But the steps seem too slow
Crawling an agonizing pace
Screaming his anger at the world
He falls weakened beyond thought.
His once silken locks
Hanging limply around his face
Soiled and grimed with blood
Sticks to his cheek, unnoticed
Her ribbon loosely holds the rest.
Knife sheathed, lacing leather to the leg
Sword to his side
Ulcerated wounds oozing
Two swords across his back
An arsenal of weapons at his call
Yet none can help him now
His hour of need and
All his weapons useless
In the face of his lonely death
Panting, gasping
Sobbing, his heart breaks
Unable to carry on
His body broken
He kneels, knowing he is lost
Hands lift him
Fingertips softly, tenderly
Lifting away the hair from his face
Smiling sweetly
A vision of wonder
She has come to meet his end
The goddess holds apart her portals
And smiling, beckons him
Guiding him into the darkness
To the altar deep within
Encouraging him to fear nothing!
She smoothes, and calms his soul
Opening her portals wider
Allowing him to enter the sanctuary within
To see the sacred places
No man can be in!
He is swallowed in the moment
Closing his eyes he surrenders his soul
Lost in her beauty and his love for her
And as she holds his passion high
Together they soar
To the outer limits of the sky
