Deep purple twilight descending
Spring mists…white flowers and ferns
She thinks of beginnings and endings
And of how the world changes and turns.

She waits for her darling to join her
Woven wood beckons and calls…
Dreams are the bridge that connects them
And within those dreams now she falls

The sound of sharp cries in the distance
Draws her back from the bright reverie
She stands and listens intently
For the cries speak of deep misery

She follows the path through the forest
Back to the foggy green vale
She sees a struggling creature
Caught in a cruel trap on the trail.

She approaches the terrified being
And kneels to examine its plight…
She sees the tortured expression
Trembling lips,  and eyes wide with fright

She opens the jaws of its captor
And offers her hand to it's aid…
And as the small creature steps forward
It changes into a fair maid.

She smiles as the woman draws nearer
She holds  out her arms for a kiss…
Her darling transformed, stands before her
And embracing they drown in sweet bliss.

But the moment is short lived and fleeting
Her lover has changed in her arms…
To a vaporous transient being
Who fades along with her charms.

Alone on the pathway she wanders
Looking for something she lost…
The smile of the small girl at twilight
She will find her no matter the cost.
