If I didn't have to

If I didn't have to
Suffer through another day
I would be elated and truly happy
If I could just wipe away
all the sorrows
That I carry inside of me
Yet I do ask myself often
Wouldn't it be nice if it was that easy
So that I could put my past behind me
And finally be able to look forward
To the brighter tomorrow's
that are ahead of me
But I have come to the realization
That nothing ever comes that easy
And that is just a plain reality
