From My Window
Bright lights shining in the night,
Colors of yellow, green, and blue.
Tall buildings that reach up high
Into the dark mass of void.
Multiple lighted windows;
Have obscured the starry sky.
Oh, I miss twinkling stars.
Cars honking frantically,
For they have places to go.
Pedestrians aimlessly walks beside the traffic,
On sidewalks in front of brightly lit stores.
Others stop to look at the window display,
made for wishing and wanting.
No hurry, for they enjoy the night life.
From out my hotel window up high, I watch.
Sleep is far away, my bed awaits, patiently.
Made up so neatly by an overworked maid,
Who goes home in the evening;
To feed her hungry children.
Or, maybe to a meager meal,
Sitting alone at the kitchen table.
What a disparity my eyes do see.
Some enjoy their aimlessness,
While others have weary backs;
From hard work, toiling day to day.
Some cry, some laugh,
Some sing and some will dance.
Yes, life is sadness and gladness,
Playing and working and then dying.
Detached, I watch them below,
Playing out their reality.
I thank my many blessings,
Bestowed on my life, well spent.
