Visions

Throw Away Baby

Marlene had always wondered
who her mother was,
why she had cared
so little for her
she had just dumped her
when she was born
putting her up for adoption.
Now, married,in her late thirties,
she had searched for twenty years
knowing only her mothers name.
In this record happy world
she thought surely she
would find some trace.
No! But she longed to know
who her mother was
why she had abandoned her.
Then, her husband was promoted.
Good! But why did the headquarters
have to be in some piddly
little town in New Mexico?
She liked big cities.
But what must be, must be.
She stayed behind to
settle the house and moving.
Finally, arriving by train,
her husband met her at the station.
Driving along, happy to see her,
he mentioned their new home,
and, "oh! By the way there is someone
you would like to meet who lives here."
After all those years of searching!
Her mother! Happy to see her too,
she explained it broke her heart
to give her up for adoption
but penniless and alone
she felt she had to turn her over
to someone who could take care of her.
They became good friends.
Ah! The wonderful Providence of our God
who can make the crooked straight,
the bitter waters sweet,
heal a sorrowing heart and
wipe away all tears
but tears of joy!
