 Poems by The Old Cowboy

Into The Dark

             INTO THE DARK

The coal black shape slid into the night
From behind it's fire blazed so bright

Standing straight up it cork screwed away
JP-4 filling the air with a sweet bouquet

Off it flew silently to who knows where
The enemy not knowing so unaware

Hiding so high where other could not fly
Camera's stronger the a hawks eye

Keeping America safe from up above
Protecting her like a ladylove

A well hidden secret in its youth
It became our greatest sleuth

Its engines now idle setting silent
No longer on the cold war's battlefront

The great Blackbird SR-71
Now rests in hanger in Dayton
