Etwas Gedanken

MADE IN GERMANY (LITTLE HELP FROM CHINA)

These days, it's totally a consumer's market
Lowering investment is the only steadfast target
In business, there is a global trend to outsource
Looking the world over for cheaper labour force
China and India are the prominent ones to gain
Several other nations have also jumped on this train
In a nutshell, the affair is quite complex
It does not cease to polarize and perplex

There are defenders of both sides of the equation
Attacking the other with vociferous persuasion
Unions the world over are crying themselves hoarse
Governments are confronted on the reason to outsource
Some jobs are deemed to be menial and humble
Often rejecting such work with disdain, we grumble
If we see a poor soul with the desire to work and earn
Accepting what we declined, we still simmer and burn

Consumers of course, want more economical prices
Manufacturers want suppliers with cheaper devices
Customers have often made a disparaging remark
”Made in Germany” would once inspire confidence
But “Made in China” only appears to generate suspense
Reliability and product quality seem to have been tossed
We hear of melamine tainted milk and human lives lost

Most of the western world had manufacturing enterprise
Since then workers have seen their systematic demise
Americans have shifted production to China in a flock
Scandinavia meanwhile dashes to erstwhile Soviet bloc
As China and India chase their national development goal
They belch greater fumes and burn more oil and coal
As more companies look to the east for a shift
The rise in the appetite for more power is swift
The environmental situation has an even lesser rosy tint
So the west has also outsourced it's the carbon footprint
December 2009 in Copenhagen will see more pretense
Countries descending there to make some sort of sense.
