Poetry that thinks out loud

NO ONE KNEW HIS NAME ( STORY POEM)

He had spent, many, years on the street
With dirty clothes and little too eat;
He'd suffered abuse from passers by
And no one cared to hear his cry.

People would pass and call him scum;
Shout things like, “Get a job, you bum!”
Random beatings from drunken men
Was never an if, but only a when.

Each night he would sleep in fear
As dangers at night were always near.
Being cold was all he could do;
No wonder he turned to the drink, too.

He'd see the happy folks walking past;
Any happiness he found didn't last.
circumstances in life put him on the street;
All his life he suffered defeat.

He had no one he could call his friend
And upon himself he could not depend.
For all he tried he was sure to fail
And that rung true as he sat in the hail.

For days he would sit at the same place
With dirty hands and a dirty face.
Holes in his clothes, a grubby old bag
And the coat he wore was barely a rag.

One cold night he began to choke;
With stinging eyes he coughed as he woke.
He awoke to a fire across the street
And his heart began to rapidly beat.

He saw a young child on the top floor
Screaming for help, looked younger than four.
Without a second thought he put himself there
And saving that child was his only care.

With a mighty kick he broke open the door;
There was no chance to fail, for sure.
fighting off flames he climbed up the stairs,
The fire so hot it was singeing his hairs!

The parents were trapped. A wall had fell
And for their child's help he heard them yell.
He found the child on the bed
And to save her from smoke he covered her head.

He told her to run to the people outside
And to wait for her parents to be by her side.
He let her go and ran back to the wall
And to the parents he began to call.

“Your child is safe. She is out of harms way.”
He told the parents it would be OK.
He then pulled the wall with all of his might
And it fell on him and trapped him tight.

The parents escaped and ran to their child
Holding her tightly as the fire grew wild.
All the people around looked on in shame
As no one there knew this heroes name.

The people around looked on in shame
AS NONE OF THE PEOPLE KNEW THE HEROES NAME!
