Count Your BlessingsAs we celebrate Thanksgiving Let us count all our blessings Have a heart filled with praise Continuing on all of our days Remember those suffering trials Some may even live in denial Burdens are so heavy they bear Does anyone understand or care? Many people are hurting today With grief that will not go away Son or daughter committed suicide The pain is so deep they feel inside An empty place at the table this year Leaves a hole causing many to despair Some cannot get past their circumstance To focus on happy times of remembrance Others who survive a terrorist attack Live with such horrifying flashbacks Teenagers in their own innocence Suddenly killed by school violence Others are caregivers for a loved one While their health is coming undone Affordable options they seek to find Quality care to bring peace of mind Some paralyzed from the neck down A motorized chair gets them around Depend on others for their daily care Brushing teeth or combing their hair Others have unforeseen medical expense Now unable to work with no insurance House payment and so many bills due How will they ever make it through? Some see their marriage come to an end By differences they were unable to mend Children custody battles result in a fight All to determine what is best and right When we realize what others endure It causes us to be so thankful for sure Remember that God is always good He alone is our strength and shield We do not understand evil in the world But it is not from God that it is hurled Evil comes from the sinfulness of man Jesus, on the cross, fulfilled God's plan If you do not know Jesus as Savior Today, your life can change forever Accepting His free gift of salvation Guarantees your eternal destination Admit your sin then by faith believe All your sins He paid and did forgive He died and rose again just for you Invite Him in, not by works you do Psalm 28:7 (NIV) The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 136:1 (NIV) Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever. © Carol Salter 11/21/09 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
