Once upon a time she was a child
In arms I held back then awhile
Now full grown we clearly see
The need she was and is to me
Play time was ours and wish I could
Turn back the clock as once we stood
For something more than just a father
Hero, her Knight in shining armor
Time would come to steal my joy
Now full grown, she's met a boy
Handsome this Prince today who married
Daughter of mine, threshold He'll carry
She has become what I prayed for
Sweetheart, daughter truly adored
I'll say again who once was mine
To hold tonight for a short time
Success now hers to have and keep
We hope when she falls fast sleep
She'll dream of me she knew as dad
Once Knight much older, whose aged not bad
To those today that do not know
Princess yours, Princess of old
Hold them close and dance with them
For Fairy Tales one day do end
This write is for my daughter Erica who marries in May of 2010
Although the song written by Steven Curtis Chapman was written
and inspired by his two adopted daughters Maria and Stevie Joy, we felt compelled to use it to express
how much I love and miss what still is my Cinderella.
