 Snow '09

The predictions was as this storm system approached;
A winter storm warning as very heavy snow was coming our way.
I am always a bit of a skeptic at the weatherman's yarn;
As I expected a dusting, maybe an inch or two at most.

The snow began lightly falling around four o'clock Friday;
Delicately covering the ground with a pristine blanket.
Continuing to fall as I looked out my window that night,
Knowing I was working the dayshift on Saturday morning.

About six inches on the ground when I went to bed early;
Setting the alarm a bit ahead, just in case the snow continues.
My alarm sounds, I look into the yard at the results of the night.
Cutting on the porch light, the snow picking up pace, now falling hard;

Falling hard is huge flakes, adding to nearly two feet on the ground;
Dressing warmly, I am excited about my drive into work this morning.
Dropping into four wheel low, I make the first tracks in the virgin snow;
Creeping down the mountain towards work, mesmerized by nature.

Surreal is this moment, pushing through where no one has yet ventured;
An excited gentle peace enters my soul, wishing this moment could last.
My untraveled road joins a main road, a few others are making this journey;
Plowing through Mother Nature's magnificent white beauty at sunrise.
